Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using our PAN card photo and document tools — portal requirements, file formats, privacy, and more.

PAN Card Photo & Signature
What size should my PAN card photo be for NSDL?
For the NSDL / Protean portal, your photo should be 197×276 pixels (2.5×3.5 cm at 200 DPI), colour JPEG format, and under 50 KB in file size. Our tool handles all of this automatically.
What size should my PAN card photo be for UTI?
For the UTI Infrastructure portal, your photo should be 213×213 pixels (square), 300 DPI, colour JPEG format, and under 30 KB. Select the UTI toggle before cropping.
What are the signature requirements for UTI?
UTI requires the signature to be 354×157 pixels, 600 DPI, in black and white JPEG format, under 60 KB. Our tool auto-converts to greyscale after cropping when UTI is selected.
Can I use a mobile phone photo?
Yes. Take the photo in good natural light against a plain white background, then upload it. Make sure the face is centred and the image is not blurry.
Why is my image being rejected by the portal even after resizing?
Common reasons: background is not plain white, glasses are worn, photo is blurry, or the file size exceeds the limit. Try re-cropping more tightly and re-downloading.
Tool Usage
Is this tool free to use?
Yes. All tools on PAN Photo Resizer are completely free. No registration, no subscription, no watermarks.
Do I need to install anything?
No installation required. Everything runs in your web browser. Chrome or Edge is recommended for best compatibility.
Are my photos uploaded to any server?
No. All image processing happens entirely within your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device.
Which browser should I use?
Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge give the best experience. Firefox also works. Safari on iOS may have limitations with file downloads.
What image formats can I upload?
JPEG, PNG, and WEBP are all accepted for upload. Output is always JPEG as required by NSDL and UTI portals.
The Download button is not working. What should I do?
Try a different browser (Chrome works best). On mobile, tap and hold the download button and choose 'Save Link'. Make sure pop-ups are not blocked.
Aadhaar PDF
How do I merge my Aadhaar front and back into one PDF?
Use the Merge Aadhaar Card tool on the home page (or the Aadhaar Formatter page). Upload the front image, crop it, then upload the back image. The PDF is generated and downloaded automatically.
Why is the PDF being compressed? I want maximum quality.
Government portals have a 300 KB limit. If your images are large, the tool compresses just enough to stay under 300 KB while maintaining the highest possible quality.
The PDF is too small (under 200 KB). Will it be accepted?
Yes — a smaller PDF is fine. Portals only set a maximum size, not a minimum. However, our tool tries to keep the PDF between 200–300 KB for a good quality image.
Can I adjust the gap between front and back images?
Yes. There is a 'Gap between images' field in the Aadhaar tool. Set it to 0 for no gap, or increase it for spacing between the two sides.
Portal & Compliance
Is this tool affiliated with NSDL or UTI?
No. PAN Photo Resizer is an independent free utility. We are not affiliated with NSDL, Protean eGov, UTI Infrastructure, UIDAI, or the Income Tax Department.
What if the portal requirements change?
Portal requirements can change at any time. We update the tool when we become aware of changes, but always verify the current specification on the official portal before submitting.
I applied on the portal but my photo was still rejected. What now?
Contact the portal's helpdesk. Common causes are: the photo was cropped too tightly, background is not plain white, or the JPEG quality was too low. Try re-cropping with a bit more margin around the face.
